LEAPO BOARD MEETS MONTHLY
LEAPO Board of Directors ~ representatives from many of the 37 subdivisions on the Lake ~ meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Lake of Egypt Fire Protection District Station #1, 12228 Lake of Egypt Road, on the corner of Market Street and Lake of Egypt Road. Meetings start at 7 pm.
If you are a resident of one of the subdivisions not represented on the Board, please think about participating. The Board works for the betterment of our lake. The meetings are open and anyone is invited to attend.

It seems especially nice this year to welcome the arrival of “Indian Summer” to the Lake. Gone are the very hot, humid, days of July and August that we all endured. The warm days, cool nights, and some much needed rain make it significantly easier to get outside and really enjoy all that the Lake and surrounding area have to offer. The drop in water temperature should also greatly improve fishing success.
That being said, your LEAPO organization has been busy over the summer. On July 12, Alun Hughes, LEAPO V.P. and I met with Scott Ramsey, SIPC President and Todd Gallenbach, his Production Manager, and also a Lake resident. Many issues were discussed concerning the Lake including security, enforcement, water quality, and the expanding growth of traffic on the Lake. This was the first time in many years that LEAPO has been able to sit down together with the top management of SIPC. We sincerely appreciated Scott and Todd’s willingness to listen to Lake Residents’ concerns and to potentially be a part of some solutions towards overall betterment of the Lake community. SIPC, at the time of this writing, is still finishing an internal security audit of processes and procedures for facility and the Lake. Scott has advised us that they will get back to us on any decisions that will affect Lake Residents. Stay tuned.
The annual LOE Fire Department “Fun Day” for children and families was held on Saturday, August 27. Special thanks to all the LEAPO volunteers, too many to name, who assisted the firemen and firewomen by supplying and grilling hot dogs and brats, serving soft drinks and desserts, and making cotton candy and snow-cones. Fortunately, we were not asked to man the “Dunk Tank”! A record attendance was achieved.
Thanks to all the participants who helped on the quarterly road trash pickup on Saturday, September 17. We had the best turnout in a long time; Chuck Wiese, Chuck and Debbie Arthur from Egypt Shores, Wendy Hinz from Luxor Landing, Steve Bly from Wagon Creek Ranch, and seven explorers from the Fire Station made it go much quicker than in the past.
Kudos to Betty Schultz for combining LEAPO blood drive efforts with the Methodist Church in Goreville and also to the many Lake residents who gave blood at this August 31 event; the combining really paid off.
Jody Gallagher, LEAPO Trash Coordinator, has informed us that we are very close to 1,000 trash customers. The current number is 993 customers up eight from last month. If you are not a LEAPO member or trash customer, consider joining and saving significant dollars on trash pick-up. Jody can be reached at (618) 995-2629.
Alun Hughes, chairman of the grievance and public safety committee, has had a recent meeting concerning the possibility of forming a Community Alert System for the Lake. Anyone interested in learning about or anticipating in that endeavor can contact Alun at 995-2367.
Cindi Swinehart, LEAPO food drive coordinator, is also trained in the “Map Your Neighborhood” program. She will be happy to give any information about both off these very worthwhile activities. Cindi can be reached at 995-9131.
The yearly LEAPO annual internal audit was just completed and I am happy to report our financial situation is in excellent condition. Thanks are due to Janet Williams, chairman of the committee, Chuck Wiese, Linda Escherich, treasurer, and Vernon Crabtree. We heartily welcome new subdivision directors to LEAPO; they are Sue Nash of North Shoreland, Wanda Stanley of Sugar Creek Farms, and Charles and Patsy Vanseghi of Lake Estates.
In closing, we always appreciate any news or information regarding happenings or developments around the Lake area. You can send your information to Marty Hinz, ANCHOR Editor, at JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING or call 995-1426.
Additionally, please feel welcome to attend any LEAPO monthly board meeting held the second Tuesday of the month ~ 7 pm. Meetings are relatively short, informative and to the point. Light refreshments are served and the location is in the beautiful, still new Firehouse on the corner of Lake Of Egypt Road and South Market. Have a great Fall Season at the Lake.
Respectfully,
Steve Bly, President
